Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator

The Reserve Connection (TRC) is seeking to hire a Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator to work on The Reserve at Rancho Mission Viejo (The Reserve). TRC is responsible for public programming on The Reserve at Rancho Mission Viejo, a growing habitat reserve located in South Orange County, California. Currently, The Reserve at Rancho Mission Viejo is approximately 7,000 acres in size, but over time is anticipated to grow to approximately 20,000 acres in size.

Position Overview

The Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator reports to the Executive Director. This is a non-exempt position that is responsible for engaging with the public to promote TRC’s volunteer opportunities and recruiting and retaining volunteers. In addition, the Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator connects The Reserve to the community and donor relationships through marketing, social media and in-person outreach.

Core Responsibilities

  • Recruit, train, and retain volunteers to support conservation and public access on The Reserve
  • Manage volunteer communications, registration, and training process
  • Assist in the organization of special events, including donor/volunteer appreciation events and other fundraising initiatives
  • Assist with database management including ensuring data integrity and producing reports about volunteers and organizational accomplishments
  • Share insight and information with Executive Director regarding stated or prospective philanthropic intentions of individual or corporate volunteers
  • Represent TRC at community outreach events and build relationships with relevant community members, users, and groups
  • Create consistent, meaningful content on social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok, and YouTube)
  • Maintain a calendar of outreach activities, including community events, workshops, appearances, and other communication opportunities
  • Assist with Marketing & Communications, as needed
  • Other administrative duties as assigned

  • Create and maintain strong cooperative relationships with visitors, coworkers, community agencies, school personnel, volunteers, and professional individuals

  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Takes initiative and works independently to help meet TRC’s mission and improve the organization

Knowledge and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or at least 2 years of professional, office experience
  • At least two years of experience in volunteer coordination or management
  • Experience with databases and technology preferred
  • Competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Competency in Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, or Canva software
  • Strong knowledge of social media and other basic marketing platforms
  • Detail-orientated with the ability to manage multiple projects at a time

Working Conditions/Physical Abilities

  • Comfortable being outside in variable weather and physical conditions
  • Ability to move up to thirty (30) pounds, load, and unload supplies, set up, and breakdown equipment
  • Hike up to three (3) miles in an emergency to obtain assistance


  • A valid California Driver’s License is required
  • CPR/First Aid certification (provided upon employment)
  • Volunteer Management Certificate preferred

$20.00/hour, Part-time 30 hours per week. Includes health, dental, and vision benefits and 401K. Flexible days and hours. Must be available to work two weekend days per month and some evenings.
